THE CORE TRAINING GROUP

What is THE CORE?

THE CORE is the answer for those that have been feeling stagnant in their progression of climbing skill, those who want to elevate their training and reap the benefits, or for those who simply enjoy the team atmosphere of everyone working towards a common goal of getting stronger, fitter, and sending harder.

All Skill Levels, from beginner to elite are welcome!

THE CORE is an adult training group whose goal is to progress its members in both climbing skill and strength.

THE CORE achieves these goals through twice a week workouts.  One of which focuses on climbing related techniques, strength, route reading and sequence solving, and metal strength while on the wall. The other workout of the week focuses on climbing fitness. Cardiovascular endurance, dynamic strength, and muscular endurance as they pertain to climbing, are all worked through a program centered on interval training. THE CORE workouts are designed such that they are motivationally dependant, meaning that you will be able to make them as challenging as you are able. This system of differing individual intensities within workouts will enable everyone from those who have been climbing for 10 years, to those new to the sport to recieve the motivational benefits that come from climbing in a group.

THE CORE is lead by Ryan West. Ryan has been climbing for over ten years, has sent V10 boulder problems outdoors, and previously served as both head coach of the youth climbing team and head routesetter here at The Rocknasium. Despite many years of experience he has not forgotten what it feels like to be new to the sport. Ryan also brings with him, 8 years or competitive rowing experience, four of which were at a highly intense and competitive level for UC Davis.  In addition to years of climbing and rowing experience, Ryan has recently graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Exercise Biology, and has combined this with his knowledge of climbing to structure THE CORE’s workouts.

THE CORE is not personal training, and Ryan is not a personal trainer.


Presently THE CORE workouts are on:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 - 6 PM.
THE CORE membership is $80 per month (only $5 an hour for small group personal coaching!)


Everyone is welcome to try a session of each type free of charge or feeling of commitment.
